This was my GameChanger moment for dance.
I saw a hula performance by Hula Halau O’Kamuela Elua in Glendale CA at their annual show. I had never seen dance (and hula, for that matter) this precise and fluid. I eventually trained under Kunewa Mook, the kumu hula (teacher) of this group. Even though I was a dancer in high school, training under an internationally-known and respected instructor of this caliber was life-changing and it taught me how important it was to be shamelessly excellent at what you do. Every detail counts – not just for you as an athlete / performer, but for the people who follow you and even more people that you will influence as you get better with time and practice. And practice. And practice.
